Partisan gridlock prevents problem solving. Primary elections reward extremists. Gerrymandered congressional districts disenfranchise voters. The media amplifies only the most polarizing voices. Bad actors undermine our free and fair elections.
There are many pressing challenges facing American democracy today. The Welcome Party is working to make sure more voters participate and exert their political power.
Our past, present, and future efforts center around a core belief: a big-tent Democratic Party has a vital role to play in saving our democracy — and that begins with welcoming those of all backgrounds and perspectives to join us on our mission.
We’re growing the kind of energy and excitement often seen at the political fringes to support a pragmatic center-left faction within the Democratic Party.

Launched August 2021
In 2022, we supported leaders who reached out to independents and moderate Republicans to put undervalued red districts into play in Ohio, California, and Colorado. In 2024, we’re taking the fight for our democracy to more battlegrounds nationwide.

We launched a nonpartisan GOTV initiative to rally and engage young voters ahead of the special election primary in Ohio’s 11th Congressional district on August 3rd, 2021.

We celebrated the anniversary of Whip Jim Clyburn’s tide-shifting endorsement of Joe Biden ahead of the 2020 South Carolina Democratic presidential primary as a pragmatic model for the future of our party.

Independent Voter Engagement

By talking with independent voters and not just about them, we worked to drive increased turnout in the 2020 New Hampshire and South Carolina Democratic primaries and, in doing so, make our democracy more representative.

Democracy Conceded
January 2023
During the 2022 cycle, our quarterly “Conceding Democracy” reports highlighted 21 flippable red districts where Democrats were at risk of conceding to Republicans by not fielding a credible challenge. We revisited these districts in the aftermath of the midterms to see how Democrats fared.
